【摘要】:Entrapmentofwaterinthermalinsulationcausedbycondensationofwatervaporthathaspenetratedintotheinsulationisdetrimentaltothethermalresistanceoftheinsulation.Forthisreason,incertaininstallationswheretemperatureandmoistureconditionshavethepotentialtocreateavapordrivingforcetowardtheinsulation,adeterrenttothepassageofsuchvaporintotheinstalledinsulationneedstobeprovided.Thisistheprimaryfunctionofthevaporretarder.Inadditiontothefunctionstatedin9.1,avaporretarderhasthepotentialtoprovidephysicalprotectionandaddedstrengthtotheinsulationsystem.Thisspecificationisusedtospecifymaterialbyphysicalpropertyrequirementsthataddresstheaboveprerequisites.Thedesignerofaninsulationsystem,afterdeterminingthedegreeofprotectionneededfortheinsulation,canusethisspecificationtospecifytheappropriatetypeofvaporretarderwhenoneisrequired.1.1Thisspecificationcoversvaporretardersforthermalinsulation,specifically,flexiblematerialswithpermeanceof0.10permorlowerandsurfaceburningcharacteristicsof25flamespread/50smokeorlower.Thesematerialsareintendedforuseatsurfacetemperaturesofx2212;20to150x00B0;F(x2212;29to66x00B0;C).Itdoesnotcovermasticsorbarriercoatingsappliedinliquidform,normaterialsintendedforuseasweatherbarriers.1.2ThisisamaterialspecificationanddoesnotimplythataninstalledsystemusingthesematerialswillprovidethephysicalpropertiesspecifiedinSection6.1.3Thisspecificationprovidesphysicalrequirementsforvaporretarders.PracticeC755providesassistanceinsolvingproblemsrelatedtomoisturevaportransmissionthroughthermalinsulationmaterials.1.4Thevaluesstatedininch-poundunitsaretoberegardedasstandard.ThevaluesgiveninparenthesesaremathematicalconversionstoSIunitsthatareprovidedforinformationonlyandarenotconsideredstandard.1.5Thefollowingprecautionarycaveatpertainstothetestmethodsportiononly,Section10,ofthisspecification:Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
