【摘要】:Measurementsmadebythistestmethodarerelatedtothenighttimebrightnessofretroreflectivetrafficsignsapproximatelyfacingthedriverofamid-sizedautomobileequippedwithtungstenfilamentheadlightsatabout200mdistance.Retroreflectivematerialusedontrafficsignsdegradeswithtimeandrequiresperiodicmeasurementtoensurethattheperformanceoftheretroflectionprovidesadequatesafetytothedriver.Thequalityofthesignastomaterialused,age,andwearpatternwillhaveaneffectonthecoefficientofretroreflection.Theseconditionsneedtobeobservedandnotedbytheuser.Thistestmethodisnotintendedforuseforthemeasurementofsignswhentheinstrumententranceandobservationanglesdifferfromthosespecifiedherein.1.1Thistestmethodcoversmeasurementoftheretroreflectivepropertiesofsignmaterialssuchastrafficsignsandsymbols(verticalsurfaces)usingaportableretroreflectometerthatcanbeusedinthefield.Theportableretroreflectometerisahand-heldinstrumentwithadefinedstandardgeometrythatcanbeplacedincontactwithsignmaterialtomeasuretheretroreflectioninastandardgeometry.Themeasurementscanbecomparedtominimumrequirementstodeterminetheneedforreplacement.EntranceandobservationanglesspecifiedinthistestmethodarethoseusedcurrentlyintheUnitedStatesandmaydifferfromtheanglesusedelsewhereintheworld.1.2Thistestmethodisintendedtobeusedforthefieldmeasurementoftrafficsignsbutmaybeusedtomeasuretheperformanceofmaterialsbeforeplacingthesigninthefieldorbeforeplacingthesignmaterialonthesignface.1.3Thistestmethodcoversmeasurementsata0.2degreeobservationangle.SeeTestMethodE2540formeasurementsata0.5degreeobservationangle.1.4Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesandtodeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
