【摘要】:Measurementofthechangesinthevolumeandhardnessofanelastomerthatoccurfromimmersioninalubricatinggreaseorfluidprovidesameansforevaluatingrelativecompatibility.MuchofthistestmethodwasderivedfromproceduresdescribedinTestMethodD471andFederalTestMethod791C/3603.5.Incontrasttothesetwotestmethods,whichemphasizetheevaluationofrubberandrubber-likecompounds,TestMethodD4289wasdevelopedspecificallytoevaluatelubricatinggreasesandfluids,especiallythoseusedinautomotiveapplications,althoughthetestmethodcanbeappliedtolubricantsusedinindustrialapplicationsaswell.ExceptingtheShoreDurometerA,thistestmethodrequiresnospecialized,rubber-testingequipment.Virtuallyallotherequipmentandsuppliesspecifiedintheprocedurearestockitemsinlubricantslaboratories.Thevolumeandhardness-changevaluesdeterminedbythistestmethoddonotduplicatesimilarchangesthatoccurinelastomericsealsunderactualserviceconditions.However,theycanbecorrelatedinmanyinstances.Inonesuchinstance,thevolume-changevaluesdeterminedbytheantecedentofthistestmethodcorrelated(r2=0.99)withthosethatoccurredduringavehicletest.Becauseofwidevariationsinserviceconditionsanddifferencesingreaseandelastomerformulations,correlationsbetweentheresultsobtainedwiththistestmethodandparticularapplicationsshouldbedeterminedonanindividualbasis.WhentheoptionalReferenceElastomersAMS3217/2B(acrylonitrile-butadiene,NBR-L)andAMS3217/3A(chloroprene,CR)areusedtoevaluatecompatibility,theresultscanbeusedtojudgeaservicecharacteristicoflubricants.Inthisrespect,thistestmethodisusefulforlubricantspecifications(forexample,SpecificationD4950).Similarly,thistestmethodcanbeusedinspecificationsforlubricatingfluidsaswell.WithspecificationsrequiringelastomersotherthanReferenceElastomersAMS3217/2BorAMS3217/3A,couponscutfromstandardsheets(PracticeD3182)shouldbeused.Whenthepreparationofsuchcouponsisnotfeasible,orthelubricantspecificationrequirestheuseofrubberproductsthatdonothaveasuitablesizeorconfigurationforuseinpreparingcouponsfortesting(PracticeD3183),thistestmethodcanbeusedasaguideforevaluatingcompatibility.Note48212;InasmuchastheprecisionvaluesapplyonlytotheelastomersspecifiedinAnnexA1ofTestMethodD4289,whenalubricantspecificationrequiressomeotherelastomer,theuserandsupplierofthelubricantshouldagreetothevaluesofacceptableprecision.SuchvaluesmayormaynotbethesameasthoseofTestMethodD4289.Itisrecommendedthattheagreeduponprecisionvaluesbestatedintheuser''slubricantspecification.Theresultsofthistestmethodaremostapplicabletotheuseoflubricatinggreasesandfluidsincontactwithelastomericseals,boots,O-rings,andsimilarproducts,wherethephysicaldemandsontheelastomerarenotextreme.Incriticalapplicationswherethelubricantwillbeincontactwithrubberpartssubjecttosevereflexing,extremetemperatures,orsimilarstresses,otherrubberproperties,suchastensilestrengthandelongation,shouldalsobeevaluatedastheymaybemoreindicativeofthetruecompatibilitycharacteristics.1.1Thistestmethodevaluatesthecompatibilityoflubricatinggreasesandfluidswithcouponscutfromstandardelastomersheets(PracticeD3182)or,optionally,fromSAESpecificationAMS3217/2B(NBR-L)andAMS3217/3A(CR)sheets.Compatibilityisevaluatedbydeterminingthe......
